Abstract
Lyme Disease is a recently described zoonosis (Burgdorfer et al, 1982) caused by the spirochaete Borrelia burgdorferi and transmitted in Europe by the sheep tick Ixodes ricinus, which was added to the list of notifiable diseases in Scotland on 1st January 1990.
