Abstract
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which develops following exposure to horrifying or life-threatening events, is a complex, debilitating disorder that can affect virtually every aspect of psychological functioning. Traumatic events that trigger PTSD include physical or sexual assault, combat, accidents (e.g., serious automobile or industrial accidents), and natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods.
