Abstract

Department of Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics Case Western Reserve University Cleveland, Ohio 44106 As opposed to free space propagation, light travels in a constrained manner in waveguides. A simple example of a one-dimensional optical waveguide is a straw with reflecting walls where light is guided along the length of the straw as shown in Figure.1
