Abstract
Since it was founded in 1974, one of the main objectives of the Asociación Colombiana de Ingeniería Sísmica, AIS, (Colombian Association for Earthquake Engineering) has been the development of a meaningful set of earthquake-resistant design requirements that eventually could be adopted by the Colombian government as part of a general building code. The first step was to translate into Spanish the 1974 SEAOC Requirements (Seismology Committee 1974). This Spanish version was widely distributed throughout the country.
