Time Constant Versus Frequency

Abstract

In many applications dealing with signal pre-emphasis and de-emphasis, engineers speak of the time constant of a resistor-capacitor combination instead of transition frequency. The relation between the two is:
$$ \tau = \frac{1}{{2\pi f}} $$

$$ f = \frac{1}{{2\pi \tau }} $$

where τ is the time constant in seconds.
