Sound Fields of Ultrasonic Circumferential Arrays - Case of an Array for Steam Generator Heat Exchanger Tubes

Abstract

Corrosion damage on steam generator (SG) heat exchanger tubes of nuclear power plants has repeatedly been the cause of limitations in availability and for steam generator replacements. This applies not only to the Russian nuclear power plants of the VVER type but is in fact a world-wide problem. If corrosion damage in the tube wall permits activity penetration into the secondary loop, the defective SG heat exchanger tubes must be plugged by welding. This causes a loss of heating surface and a reduction in the output and availability, and finally also a shortening of the life time.
