Abstract
“Can effective tobacco control strategies be created for nearly no money at all?” is certainly a difficult proposition, if not impossible. At the very outset I have no hesitation in conceding that the organizers have chosen a rather weak leader from one of the poorest countries, Bangladesh, to conduct the proceedings of this workshop. I have every reason to believe that I have been invited to tell you exactly how we make our plans and manage to carry out the programme of tobacco control in our country with such meagre resources at our disposal. Hence, what I am going to tell you now are my ideas about how tobacco control strategies can be created and implemented in developing countries. I shall also give you a brief account of the activities started so far in this regard in Bangladesh.
