Abstract

In a study carried out in 1991 (Frydman M., 1992), the proportion of smokers among Belgian physicians was found to be 26.2%. This represented a decrease of 5.7% compared with 1983 - which corresponds to the average decrease in the whole Belgian population over that period of time - but it remains quite high a proportion, given in particular the knowledge that medical doctors have of the damaging effects of smoking on health, which are now convincingly demonstrated.
