Paternally-Mediated Developmental Toxicity: Implications for Risk Assessment and Science Policy
The objectives of this paper are: 1) to provide a brief summary regarding the status of the development of a policy within the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) establishing a gender-neutral approach to regulating environmental pollutants; and 2) to discuss the assessment of male-mediated developmental outcomes within the context of the Agency’s Guidelines for Developmental Toxicity Risk Assessment (U.S. EPA, 1991). In particular, the definitions and assumptions presented in those guidelines are evaluated as to relevance and applicability to assessing male-mediated developmental outcomes.
