The ability to move widely and deeply in human affairs is sought by many writers, artists, ecologists, political leaders, or even psychotherapists. This freedom of movement is what I mean by a complex passion. Passion is from the Latin passio, to suffer. Oddly, the ability to suffer a wide variety of positions gives freedom of movement if one is not stuck in any given suffering. It is not easy to find a map for the trials of passion. Some patients come to us needing a mentor for this kind of life. I offer here what I think is needed.
