Digital Techniques in the Telephone Network

  • Chapter
Digital Telephony and Network Integration

Abstract

This chapter deals with many of the functions that are needed to make a digital telephone system operate. It begins with the subjects of synchronization and time-division multiplexing and then covers the basic functions of multiplexing, scrambling and channel coding. Figure 5.1 relates some of these functions to one another as well as to source coding as they might be found in a generalized digital transmission system.
