Abstract
One of the oldest, and certainly one of the most important, methods of preparing polymer mixtures involves blending techniques. This chapter will discuss mechanical blending, graft-type blending, and related schemes for producing compositions that have a rubber phase dispersed within a plastic matrix. Some of these materials have become famous for their impact resistance, while others, although interesting morphologically, exhibit little if any toughening.
