Abstract
It is never enough to simply “believe” a model has created correct answers; engineers must be able to prove it, or validate the model. Simulation is usually performed on a computer, and the old phrase Garbage In, Garbage Out (GIGO) still applies. There are different levels of validation, and care should be taken to understand which level is necessary for a given problem. Also, not every problem needs to be independently validated. If every simulation must be validated with measurements or calculations, it would be unnecessary to perform any simulations at all.
