As mentioned in the previous two chapters, the Java programming language has some important aspects that make the language suitable for discrete-event simulation. This chapter presents an overview of the relevant object-oriented aspects of Java, and the important concepts of threads. The graphics capabilities of Java using the AWT and the Swing packages, and some advanced characteristics of Java, applets, servlets, and beans are discussed in separate chapters.
