Abstract

Research in neuropsychology begins with an understanding of the factors underlying normal cognitive capacities. The specific mission of medical neuropsychology is to determine how diseases of organs or systems induce impairment in cognitive functioning. By conventional standards, impairment is defined as a score on a cognitive test that ranks the individual in the lower fifth to tenth percentile of the population.
