Neurovisual Rehabilitation via the Internet

Teletreatment and Teleproctoring of a Home Self-adaptive Visual Field Treatment on PC/ TV Screen

  • Chapter

Abstract

Visual disorders due to cerebrovascular accidents or traumatic brain injury represent a severe individual and economic problem causing considerable constrains of personal autonomy and binding of public money. In contrast there is little treatment available which allows for true restitution of visual functions. Since within recent years the efficacy of a self-adaptive neurovisual rehabilitation algorithm had been demonstrated for an automatized treatment on a special perimeter hemisphere (LRP), the algorithm was adapted for stimulus presentation on PC and TV screens. Due to fast increasing internet access in many countries, a study has been initiated to use our “Vision Trainer Brightness” VTB software for at-home neurovisual rehabilitation teletreatment via the internet. The advantages of that approach are demonstrated in terms of time, actuality, individuality, comfort, broad treatment access and low costs. Teleproctoring of at-home treatment may serve as an additional tool to further improve treatment quality.
