Abstract
The utilization of energy resources for the production of useful work has one unavoidable problem: pollution of the environment. Three major types of environmental pollution today are of grave concern: air pollution due to burning fossil fuels—oil, coal, and natural gas; radiation pollution, due mainly to the use of nuclear energy; and thermal pollution, which is present any time an energy resource is used.
