Abstract

Angiology is the study of the bloodvascular system—its evolution (angiogenesis), its patterns of distribution, and its central function of protecting the body from ischemic disease. A major characteristic of the circulatory system is its versatility and redundancy: most arteries or veins carrying blood to and from regions of the body have overlapping distributions, and virtually all communicate or establish connections (anastomoses) as need dictates.
