Systema Porifera

Abstract

Isoraphiniidae Schrammen (Demospongiae, ‘lithistids’) contains only one extant genus Costifer Wilson, known only from two species from deep water of the Pacific. There are, however, several fossil Mesozoic genera which belong to this family. The family is characterized by heloclone desmas and ectosomal triaenes. Microscleres in Costifer are of three types: acanthoxeas, spiraster-like acanthorhabds, and streptasters.
