The Social Context for Faith and Health

  • Chapter
Book cover The Health Behavioral Change Imperative

Abstract

Assuring health is a major endeavor in most nations. Even when individuals and/or groups within a country cannot or have not prioritized healthy living, policy makers and health professionals attempt to maintain a reasonable standard of health for all. Assuring health is a major endeavor in most nations when individuals and/or groups prioritize health for all of their constituents. Conceptually, the goal has been to enhance physical, social, and psychological well-being and quality of life of the people who live within a country’s geographical boundaries. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO), which is a global health body, has organized nations throughout the world to collectively assure a reasonable standard of health for all (Roemer, 1976).
