Abstract
From Antiquity to contemporary culture, negative judgments have been a constant in the way societies have regarded those groups manifesting deviant behaviour and among them, persons affected by severe mental disorders. Stigma affects not only the patient, but also his/her family, the services, treatments and people who care for them.
