Abstract

In most of the world diarrhea is the leading cause of death in infancy. The risks of bacterial enteritis include acute life-threatening fluid losses, renal failure, and impaired growth. Exposure to bacterial enteropathogens varies geographically. In areas where sanitation is poor a variety of pathogens occur at high frequency. In more developed countries a limited range of pathogens is found with only organisms easily spread by direct contact or through contaminated food being common
