Abstract

Every day scores of men and women, by means of physical force or persuasive behavior, cause others the outrage of undeserved suffering. Many of these acts are violations of criminal statutes; still others are more appropriate to define as immoral. Nevertheless, all are evil in that they have in common treating other people with a lack of respect and consideration for the victim’s humanity.

Goodness in the greatest force in the world.

Somerset Maugham, The Razor’s Edge
