An Evaluation Framework for Information Strategies at Higher Education Institutions

An effective information strategy is becoming an increasingly important component of organisations. Specifically in the field of higher education, a number of institutions have developed institutional information strategies during the last few years. A major problem to be faced is how to measure the success and effectiveness of such strategies. In response, through a review of the theoretical underpinning, particularly critical social theory and theories of corporate strategy; and through empirical research conducted in higher education institutions, this research develops a framework for the evaluation of information strategies of higher education institutions. The overall purpose of the framework is to provide a generalised tool by which the benefits and effectiveness of information strategies in higher education institutions may be assessed, and thus, to help higher education institutions ensure accountability in the strategic management of their information.
