Abstract
relative time period: Usually defined by the first occurrence of ceramics, this period includes the phases commonly known as the Initial Period and the Early Horizon. In the northern half of the area, the Chavin state emerges midway through this phase, and there the period ends with the collapse of Chavin; in the southern half of the area, the period ends with the beginning of the Andean Regional Development phase.
