Abstract
Mesoporous type MCM-41 and Ti-MCM-41 have been prepared and characterised by XRD, surface area and porosity evaluation and TEM. The solids were essayed as catalysts for the epoxidation of cyclohexane at two different temperatures. Only the samples containing Ti were active in the reaction being the most active the sample that was silylated. This fact was attributed to the generation of isolated titania sites. The catalysts display a complete selectivity to the epoxide and a significant increase in the reaction rate as temperature increases, was observed. Important changes in the activation energy of the silylated Ti-MCM-41 compared to the Ti-MCM-41 was found.
