Abstract
We now focus on the performance optimization ofrouting virtualchannel connections (VCC) in ATM networks. This requires first that a traffic-theoretical model is introduced which describes the statistical properties of ATM traffic. Assuming that the quality-of-service of individual connections is ensured by an appropriate CAC algorithm, the most important performance measure for ATM routing is the connection blocking probability. The traffic-theoretical model statistically describes the transmission capacity reserved for individual connections by means of multidimensional states.
