Prevalence of Hepatitis C Virus Infection Among Haemodialysis Patients in West Java, Indonesia

Abstract

Hepatotropic infections, such as those caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), are a major health problem in developing countries in South East Asia. In Indonesia, for example, there is a high prevalence (approximately 8-36%) of chronic HBV infections. Fortunately, with improved HBV control strategies, the carrier rate has declined in the past decade (Soelaiman, 1993).
