Developing for Mobile IP

Part of the Series in Computer Science book series (SCS)

From a developer perspective, we need to plan a number of tasks while developing a project on mobile computing. The first and foremost important thing in mobile computing is to identify whether the application at all requires it. Certain business applications are more suitable for mobile computing implementation than others. The situations that can be mobile-worthy are:
  • When a significant percentage of work is performed by users while on the move.

  • Remote users are not permanently connected to an organization’s information servers.

  • Computing devices used by users to connect to the application are small, portable and light-weight.

  • There is a significant benefit due to the users’ mobility. Such benefit could be saving of costs, reduced time to market etc.

  • Data requirement for computing at the mobile user’s location is low and a slow access to the central information server can suffice for that.
