Abstract

This chapter will review the importance and necessity of intraoperative ultrasound in abdominal surgery. Considering the importance of this tool, the history of surgical ultrasound will be reviewed in addition to the challenges and the eventual rewards when incorporating ultrasound into a surgical practice.
