Living Donor Advocacy

Abstract

My first thoughts of being a living related kidney donor for my sister occurred 22 years before the actual surgery. As a healthcare provider with a family member with a medical condition, I saw firsthand how difficult it was for patients to navigate through the healthcare system. I became my sister’s advocate to help her navigate through the healthcare system during her transplant evaluation. Our transplantation experiences were full of disappointments but also successes. This chapter highlights how we traveled through this experience together.
