Approach to the Patient with Suspected Renal Artery Stenosis

Interventional Nephrology

Abstract

Atherosclerosis is the underlying mechanism of 90 % of all renal artery stenosis (RAS). There remains a great variability in response to blood pressure control and/or kidney function with percutaneous RAS intervention. Patient selection to determine those who will benefit the most from renal revascularization is the key to correct management of this complex disease state. The purpose of this chapter is to describe an approach to RAS that takes epidemiology, demographics, and kidney function into account prior to intervention.
