Schur Polynomials and Sk
Frobenius  discovered that the characters of the symmetric group can be computed using symmetric functions. We will explain this from our point of view. We highly recommend Curtis  as an account, both historical and mathematical, of the work of Frobenius and Schur on representation theory.
