Abstract

Now that he finally had the perfect laboratory, it was as if Krogh’s creative energy had been given free rein. In addition to the lines of study that continued to occupy him—circulatory physiology, insulin and diabetes research, comparative, physiology of respiration, and exercise physiology—in the thirties Krogh embarked on several new fields: dissolved organic substances as food for aquatic animals, osmotic regulation, membrane physiology, and isotopes in biological research.

Physiology does not go forward as an ordered line of battle on a continuous front, but must be carried on, ... as a guerrilla warfare against the unknown conducted single-handedly or by quite small units.
