Abstract
Experiment has shown that noble metal nanoparticles (MNPs) can be successfully incorporated in gas sensors. It was established that in comparison with conventional metal oxide chemiresistors, MNPs-based devices can be operated at room temperature or slightly above, which enables easy device integration and low-power operation. Present chapter analyzes properties of metal nanoparticles, describes technology of their synthesis, and gives information about gas sensors, which can be designed on the base of MNPs. Mechanisms of gas sensitivity and limitations of MNPs applications in gas sensors are discussed. Advantages and disadvantages of metal nanowires’ applications in gas sensors are analyzed as well. Chapter includes 13 figures, 1 Table and 96 references.
