Abstract

The prevalence of Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is quite common in the general population and increases with age The refinement and use of endovascular strategies for the treatment of PAD continues to grow. It is estimated that in the Unites States of America (USA), from 1996 to 2005, the use of endovascular procedures for the treatment of PAD increased by 4.8 % per year, whereas open surgical procedures decreased by 6.6 % per year.
