Abstract
The notion of presence within the person-centered approach (PCA) is presented as a mystical way of being as practiced by Carl Rogers. The authors conceive the state of deep presence as formative empathy in its application to the fields of education and psychotherapy. Their efforts of continuous theoretical updating of the PCA in Brazil have consisted of the inclusion of the formative mystical dimension that “transforms” the work of the experiential humanistic psychologist regarding organisms filled with mysticism.
