Abstract
A 5-year-old boy (20 kg) with a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is scheduled for a lumbar puncture with intrathecal injection of methotrexate and placement of a Port-a-Cath. The boy was diagnosed with ALL 4 weeks before. At that time, a chemotherapy regimen was commenced (vincristine, dexamethasone, and asparaginase). Previous anesthetic before the diagnosis of ALL had been uneventful. His preoperative hematology and clotting studies were normal. Electrolyte panel was not done.
