Abstract
Pornography has arguably attracted more controversy than any other form of media. Although efforts to research pornography effects have generally declined, pornography continues to gather attention in political and public spheres, particularly among religious conservatives. However, several decades of research have not substantially linked pornography with public-health related negative outcomes in consumers. Increasingly, some scholars are even concluding that pornography use may have some benefits. The introduction of pornography into various cultures and societies has generally been correlated with declines in violence toward women, not inclines, although this data is correlational, not causal. Research and controversies on pornography are discussed within this chapter.
