Abstract
As mentioned in the prologue, diabetes is one of the most prevailing non-contiguous diseases in the world. It is very hard to calculate its accurate number but a rough estimate can be drawn from its prevalence from 3% of the population in some countries to over 15% in others. If we take 7% as the mean of the two and calculate from the current world population of 7 billion, it canbe roughly calculated that there arc at least 400 to 500 million diabetics in the world. Furthermore, if it is true that at any given time only about 50% of the people suffering from diabetes arc diagnosed, this figure can be astronomical. Furthermore, due to longevity in ageing and an increase in obesity, the situation in the future is expected to be more grave.
