Abstract

In Steven Spielberg’s futuristic movie Minority Report (2002), computers scan human faces and display targeted advertisements to individuals as they walk down the street. In July 2010, some billboards in Tokyo subway stations employed cameras and face recognition software to determine the gender and age of passersby. The goal was to collect data on what sorts of people look at certain ads at what times of the day.
