Abstract

Scott McNealy, co-founder and CEO of Sun Microsystems for 22 years, told a group of reporters and analysts in January 1999: “You have zero privacy anyway. Get over it”. In December 2009, Google’s then-CEO Eric Schmidt said, “If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place”. In the year 2012 when more than two billion people are connected online, an Arizona man in Phoenix distrusts technology so much that he refuses to use a phone or computer altogether. In order to communicate with his business partner who lives across town in Phoenix, the Arizona man sends his messages via carrier pigeons.
