Abstract

Another benefit of private practice is the long-term relationships you develop with your patients. By getting to know your patient better you may best be able to appreciate what Osler described as “the true poetry of life.” Stories—humorous, sad, and inspirational—from the author’s private practice highlighting some of these poetic moments are given as examples. Short poems share funny quotes and stories with the reader. Afterwards, in longer poems, three in-depth true stories of incredible heroic patients will convince you that our physician–patient relationships indeed provide sustenance.
