Membrane-Bound Enzymic Activity in the Base-Exchange Reactions of Phospholipid Metabolism

Membrane-Bound Enzymes

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 14))

Abstract

A number of observations has been recently made of calcium-stimulated base exchange reactions for phospholipid synthesis, mostly in non-nervous tissues (1–6). The enzymic reactions are believed to take place predominantly in the microsomal particles, and lead to the non-net synthesis of lipid at the expenses of preexisting endogenous phospholipid molecules.
