The Flamsteed Papers

  • David Sellers
Part of the Astrophysics and Space Science Library book series (ASSL, volume 390)

The papers of the first Astronomer Royal, John Flamsteed, form part of the archive of the Royal Greenwich Observatory and are now deposited at the library of the University of Cambridge, where they occupy about 7 m of shelving. They are gathered into 76 pieces or batches (RGO 1/1–1/76). The first 71 are in the order imposed by Francis Baily in the catalogue given in An Account of the Revd John Flamsteed. To these five more have been added at a later date (Fig. 11.1).
