Abstract
Obesity is currently a global pandemic that exerts a significant toll on health care resources. The efficacy of surgical management of obesity has been clearly established; however, only a fraction of eligible patients are ultimately treated. Furthermore, the significantly overweight patient population is currently left with few effective treatment options. The glaring need for effective minimally invasive treatments, combined with recent advances in flexible endoscopic technology, has led to a proliferation of endoscopic techniques and devices specifically designed for the treatment of obesity. These procedures promise lower complication rates, improved cosmesis, reversibility, and the possibility of combination therapy. While still in its infancy, early experience with the endoscopic management of obesity suggests that a burgeoning field of effective primary and revision treatment options will play a growing role in the management of this disease in the near future.
