Abstract

Regardless of whether a planetary observer owns a tiny reflector on a basic altazimuth mounting or a large expensive apochromatic refractor on a sturdy computer controlled mount, by far the most important optical equipment belonging to any planetary observer is a small but powerful pair of binoculars called eyes. Looking after these precious little instruments carefully will allow the owner to enjoy the beauty of the planets throughout their lifetime.
