  • Heiko PaulheimEmail author

This chapter starts with a definition of user interface integration and discusses how user interface integration differs from other application integration approaches in Sect. 2.1. Current state of the arts approaches are discussed, such as portals in Sect. 2.2, mashups in Sect. 2.3, as well as other popular solutions and academic prototypes in Sects. 2.4 and 2.5. The review of the state of the art discusses the recent advances in the field and points out some currently existing drawbacks in Sect. 2.6, which will be addressed in this book.
