Abstract
This chapter describes how to perform a classic open right hemicolectomy for cancer and discusses modifications when the resection is performed for benign disease. The extent of the resection depends on the location of the tumor. For tumors of the cecum, the main trunk of the middle colic artery may be preserved. For tumors of the hepatic flexure or right transverse colon, it is necessary to ligate this vessel and resect additional colon.
