Chassin's Operative Strategy in General Surgery

Abstract

Mesh is now utilized for virtually all primary elective inguinal hernia repairs. This chapter describes the plug and patch repair. A variety of mesh repairs exist, but all follow the same basic principles. The surgeon must be familiar with the particular mesh and repair that is being used. Mesh should not be placed in a contaminated field (e.g., during repair of strangulated hernias).
